The Secret

Basically every thought you project creates your reality, is the point brought about by the author. So stop engaging in negative thoughts.

Be the Pack Leader - Caesar Milan

He had so many interesting points, one of which was that dogs become mirrors for their master's energies, they reflect intelligence of animal rules of behavior of dominance, submission and leader.
Whether it be claiming objects, territory, etc, I have a feeling we still have these rules in our human society, or pack as well. He mentioned Dr. Peabody which is studying his concepts of energy.

Linked - Barabasi

The most interesting points of his book were that the linking pattern of the net followed the same pattern as the Einstein-Bose Condensation law for an ideal gas, that links tend to form to what has the most number of links, not necessarily the better link. Whether that's a human behavior in a social sense, or a web designer sense, or a business sense, or a combination of all of the above, it's a pattern. Also the theorem shows it is possible for one hub to dominate ALL of the links.

The Dog Whisperer

He talks about in your mind holding that you own the territory before you even begin engaging the dog, in other words you visualize and create that energy within, and communicate that with calm, assertive energy.

Blink - priming

By having people read about sentences involving patience, and having another set of students read about being rude, it actually affected their behavior when they were tested in a psychological setting, on whether to interrupt someone in having a conversation. Those who merely read and formed sentences with words such as 'patient', and 'polite' were much more likely to NOT interrupt. Thus our unconscious minds are influencing us.

Blink - thin slicing

Malcom Gladwell talks of thin-slicing, the ability of the mind to create patterns with little information, so that intuition can guide you, as opposed to large volumes of data analysis.

  • John Gottman is a researcher well known for his work on marital relationships. His work is explored in Blink. After analyzing a normal conversation between a husband and wife for an hour, Gottman can predict whether that couple will be married in 15 years with 95% accuracy. If he analyzes them for 15 minutes, his accuracy reduces to 90%. This is one example of when "thin slicing" works.[2]

Lone Survivor

In the Navy Seal BUDs class, instructors are unfairly criticizing the students to see who was determined to stay, despite being told they were failures. Who had the mental toughness? Instructors would sneak into cadets rooms and vandalize them to see who could handle unfairness, that much of a setback, can they take injustice? "And you still come back with your jaw set, still determined, swearing to God you will never quit?" p.102 2007 paperback edition.
That's the mental toughness and determination needed to be the best of the best in our military services.
